Acupuncture
Acupuncture originated in China several thousand years ago.
It flourished there for centuries as the only system of medicine. It continues to be practiced there today, where it is now used successfully alongside Western Medicine. Millions of people worldwide benefit from Acupuncture.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into certain points on the body which have been specifically chosen according to the diagnosis made by the practitioner. These acupoints are at very specific locations, and lie on channels of vital energy or “Qi”.
Needle insertion and/or stimulation of the acupoints influence the flow of energy and blood. It stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals such as cortisol and endorphins, which influence pain, inflammation and promote wellbeing in the body.
What to expect at a treatment
At your initial consultation a detailed assessment is carried out. All aspects of the person are taken into consideration, including past and present medical history, fertility/gynaecological history, investigations, prescribed and non-prescribed medication, lifestyle, diet and emotional factors.
Traditional diagnostic skills are used, including tongue and pulse diagnosis. These along with the medical history questionnaire are crucial in determining where the imbalances lie in the body, and assist with correct acupoint selection.
The treatment will last approximately 45-60 minutes.
On needle insertion, you may experience a “tingling” sensation in the area, followed by a feeling of deep relaxation.
All needles used are CE marked, single use, sterile and disposable.
Cupping, moxabustion, massage, dietary advice and stress management may also be used to compliment the treatment.
Treatment costs 50 euros per session.
